My name is Eva Allen, and I am a 35 year old proud mother of 2, soon to be three children. I have been
married to my husband Eric for 5 years. I attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) where I
obtained a degree in Biology and Criminology with a minor in Spanish. While at Indiana University of PA,
I was a member of the International Fraternity Phi Sigma Sigma. Soon after graduating from IUP, I
returned to school at California University of Pennsylvania where I received my Master’s Degree in
Elementary Education and graduated with high honors. I am a member of Rodman Street Missionary
Baptist Church.
Professionally, I have been a teacher for the Pittsburgh Public Schools for nearly 10 years, teaching
grades K through 8. I am currently a teacher at Pittsburgh Liberty K-5 a School of Spanish Emphasis
where I teach second grade. In addition to teaching, I have had experience in the public school setting
as a literacy coach, after school program coordinator, tutor and mentor. Also during my time as a
teacher, I have had the opportunity to participate in outreach programs such as Best Friends, a
nationwide program that is dedicated to promoting the abstinence of African American teens.
I chose to participate in the Ferns Foundation because I see the need for young women and girls to
have the foundation and guidance that will ensure success in life. As a teacher in the Pittsburgh Public
School System I have witnessed firsthand what has happened when young girls do not have the proper
guidance and influence. I wanted to personally extend myself beyond the classroom to accomplish this
mission. My vision for this organization is for it to become a stepping stone for young women and girls to
stand on so that they may be propelled to great heights; and to take a hold of young women and girls
and show them how to advance in all areas to fulfill their destiny. It is my goal to provide these young
women and girls with the skills, knowledge, and support they need. The Ferns Foundation will be the
link to which young women can connect with their unlimited potential.
