Tammi L. McMillan, 39 year old married mother of 3 boys ages 18, 8 and 2. I hold a Bachelor’s of
Science degree in Elementary Education from Cheyney University and a Master’s degree in Leadership
and Liberal Arts from Duquesne University. I am currently the Program Director at Hosanna House Inc’s
Child Development Center. I supervise 15 teaching staff, in charge of researching and development of
curriculum, quality monitoring and professional development. I also provide private consultation in the
early education field. I am an after school credential validator, adjunct faculty member for Carlow
University, certified professional development facilitator and I review New Staff Orientation packets for
Penn State. I sit on the leadership committee for the Wilkinsburg School district Pre-K, School
Readiness Group, member of Pennsylvania Association for the Education of Young Children as well as
the National Association for the Education of Young Children. I attend Mt. Ararat Baptist Church.
I have a strong passion for outreach and advocacy for children who are at risk. I believe that every child
is entitled to quality life and education. As a child growing up I lived in an at- risk neighborhood;
however, I was fortunately blessed to be able to see beyond what my neighborhood had in store. It’s
only right for me to pass on the values and gifts that I was privileged to receive. One of my favorite
quotes by Oliver Goldsmith states “People seldom improve when they have no other model but
themselves to copy.” The goal for me is to make sure that I am a positive role model for the youth of
today to assist in empowering them to be the leaders of tomorrow.
I choose to be apart of the Ferns Foundation because the foundation stands for everything that I am
about. Empowering and educating today’s youth. I hope to be instrumental in mentoring, shaping and
guiding lives. I plan on assisting and developing a scholarship fund that might inspire young ladies to
further their education. I hope to set up in school and after school services for our under privileged
youth. I would also like to see the young ladies attend events that they might not ever get a chance to
attend.
It was once said to me if you can just be inspirational to at least one child you’ve done something thus
you are a part of the solution not the problem. When I look back to less than one year ago while
assisting my son in his college entrance essay on what do you desire? I can recall him saying in short “I
desire to inspire.” I can honestly say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Peace and Blessings.
